Nebraska and 4-star cornerback Elijah Blades part ways

Talented 4-star cornerback Elijah Blades will not be bringing his talents to Lincoln this fall. HuskersOnline broke the story this evening ending a summer full of speculation regarding his academic status. Blades had the opportunity to come to Nebraska as a partial qualifier but chose to enroll at Arizona Western Community College instead and will not consider Nebraska once his time there is complete.

Already thin at cornerback after Chris Jones’ knee injury, Blades was in line to fight for playing time as a true freshman alongside Eric Lee, Dicaprio Bootle, and several other underclassmen cornerbacks.

The lone signee at cornerback in 2017, this loss opens up an additional scholarship to the 2018 class where the Huskers already have verbal commitments from top rated recruits Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles, Chase Williams, and Mario Goodrich.

Expect secondary coach Donte Williams and the rest of the coaching staff to target two or more additional recruits in the 2018 class now that another scholarship has opened up. The Huskers are sitting in good positions with recruits Talanoa Hufanga, Bryan Addison, Christian Tutt, Houston Griffith, and Isaac Taylor-Stuart who could all make an immediate impact for Nebraska in the 2018 season.
